I dreamt I lived in a tree house
That I had no worries, no knowledge of the world
Our wars were fought with water balloons
Religion was something grown ups did on Sundays,
And government was some big house that had a round office
School had time to play,
Life lessons were learned by playing catch in the front yard,
And on long drives looking out the window.
Weekend mornings had cartoons and family breakfasts,
Not hangovers or ill feelings
I could be an astronaut or a firefighter
Or both,
And travel the world.
Girls had cooties yet to hold a girl’s hand meant you were a man
Yet, that was only a dream
And the wood rotted from the elements
Now we are all worried
Because we know
War means the ends of life
Religion is the manipulation of love
Government’s role is under wrought and overbearing
I have no time to play
To dream
Life lessons are forged through mistakes
I wish i had never made.
I wish I could go back to my tree house
